Gallaudet earns split at St. Norbert College Invitational to start the season

DE PERE, WIS. – The Gallaudet University women's volleyball team celebrated the first win of the 2025 season over Augsburg University, 3-2 at the St. Norbert College Invitational hosted by the Green Knights on Friday evening.

Gallaudet (1-1) played a thriller five-set match against the Auggies; 22-25, 25-19, 25-13, 23-25, 17-15. In the fifth set, GU was down, 14-15, but the Bison were able to rally to secure the win with three straight points made. 

In that thriller game, there were two milestones made by junior outside hitter Brielle Worley (Amarillo, Texas) who had a new career-high 27 kills and senior setter Ella Gamble (Cullowhee, N.C.) passed out a career best 57 assists.

The Bison turned around and played a second match against St. Norbert and lost a tough battle in four sets; 21-25, 25-22, 20-25, 22-25.

Gamble finished the night with 97 assists and seven service aces total in the two matches. 

Worley had 15 kills in the second match and finished the night with 47.5 points. 

Senior outside hitter Citrine Lummer (Frederick, Md.) led the team with 38 digs total (22 vs. Augsburg) and added 18 kills in both matches.

Junior middle hitter Jada Zarembka (Riverside, Calif.) had 29 total kills (led team with 18 vs. St. Norbert), seven blocks and six service aces in both matches.

  • Gamble surpassed 2,500 career assists at Gallaudet, currently has 2,564
  • Senior libero Nicole Hicks (Corona, Calif.) now has 808 career digs after she made 32 digs tonight
  • Lummer needs 91 kills for 1,000 career kills 
  • Zarembka needs four more blocks to reach 200 career blocks

UP NEXT
GU will play two more matches on Saturday, Aug. 31, to complete the two-day tournament. The buff and blue will begin the day against Hamline University (0-1) at 11 a.m. and Lakeland University (1-1) at 4 p.m.
