GU wraps up opening weekend at St. Norbert College Invitational

DE PERE, WIS. – The Gallaudet University women's volleyball team completed the second day at the St. Norbert College Invitational and GU split its two Saturday matches here at the Mulva Family Fitness & Sports Center. 

The Bison (2-2) defeated Hamline University (0-3) in long and battle five sets, 3-2 (23-25, 25-20, 25-21, 26-28, 15-11) before they dropped to Lakeland University (2-1) in three sets, 3-0 (23-25, 20-25, 23-25). 

Junior outside hitter Brielle Worley (Amarillo, Texas) placed on the all-tournament with her stellar performance where she had new career-high 30 kills in the opening match against the Pipers and she finished the day with 52 total kills, 22 digs and made 52.5 points. 

Senior setter Ella Gamble (Cullowhee, N.C.) passed out 53 assists and led the team with seven service aces in the first match against Hamline. Gamble finished the day with 91 total assists. Junior middle hitter Jada Zarembka (Riverside, Calif.) is second leader with 21 kills total for the Bison. Senior libero Nicole Hicks (Corona, Calif.) made 31 digs in the first match and finished the day with 47 digs followed by senior outside hitter Citrine Lummer (Frederick, Md.) with 30 total digs (19 digs vs. Hamline). Lummer also finished 15 total kills.

BISON TRACKS
  • Senior Candace Broadnax (Springfield, Va.) had career-high seven blocks vs. Hamline
  • Worley recorded 94 kills and made 100 points in four matches
  • Gamble finished the tournament with 188 assists and 15 service aces in four matches
  • Hicks tallied 79 digs during the weekend 
  • Zarembka now has 200 career blocks after 4 total blocks today
UP NEXT
Gallaudet will head to the Big Apple to participate in the NYU Invitational on Friday, Sept. 5, at 7 p.m. to face the host Violets (1-2), who are ranked No. 23 in the nation.
