WASHINGTON – Former Gallaudet University pitcher
Christina Elsbury (Uniontown, Ohio) returns to the nation's capital this weekend to try out for the Women's Pro Baseball League (WPBL).
The WPBL tryouts will take place August 22-25 at the Washington Nationals Youth Academy. The final evaluation will occur at Nationals Park on Monday, August 25.
WPBL scouts and executive leadership will be present throughout the tryouts to evaluate the athletes. The top performers from Day 1 will be invited back for additional evaluation on Saturday, August 23-24. The strongest players from the third day of tryouts will advance to the fourth day at Nationals Park.
Elsbury set college athletic history back on April 22, 2023,
when she pitched in a Gallaudet softball and baseball game on the same day and within minutes of each other.
Elsbury made her Gallaudet baseball debut on Feb. 18, 2023, against Elmira College. She became the first woman to play on a Bison baseball team at Gallaudet University, the world's only university with programs and services specifically designed to accommodate deaf and hard of hearing students.
Elsbury finished her Gallaudet softball career with two all-conference second team honors, 15 wins in the circle, three saves, 168 strikeouts in 280 innings pitched in 41 games started and 40 complete games which included five shutouts.
During the 2023 season with the Bison baseball team Elsbury made 10 appearances and tallied one strikeout in 11.1 innings pitched.
The top players from the WPBL tryout will be entered into the WPBL Draft pool. Up to 150 players will be eligible to be drafted. The WPBL Draft will take place in Oct. 2025. The league will begin in May 2026 as the inaugural season will last seven weeks in total. For more information about the Women's Pro Baseball League please visit
