WASHINGTON - The 2025 United East Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships got underway Saturday at the Thomas O. Berg Track on the campus of Gallaudet University in the nation's capital.
Senior
Walter Douglas (Sanford, Fla.) broke the conference record and captured the top spot in the long jump with a top leap of 6.84 meters (22 feet, 5.25 inches). The previous record was set last year (May 4, 2024) by Ty Tindal of St. Mary's College of Maryland with a top leap of 6.52 meters.
Douglas missed the final cut for the 200-meter dash as he placed ninth in the preliminaries with a time of 23.91 seconds. The top eight finishers in the 200-meter preliminaries advance to Sunday's final event.
Sophomore
Roberto Torres (Miami Gardens, Fla.) won first place in the 3,000-meter steeplechase event with a career best time of 10 minutes and 39.22 seconds.
Senior
Enow Otto Jr. (Silver Spring, Md.) placed fifth in the long jump with a top leap of 5.92 meters (19 feet, 5.25 inches). Otto Jr. also participated in the 100-meter dash prelims and placed 21st with a time of 15.35 seconds.
Senior
Cotis Martinez (Turlock, Calif.) participated in two throwing events; discus and javelin. In the discus event, he finished sixth overall with a top toss of 33.77 meters and he did not complete the javelin event due to rain that halted competition on Saturday. The event will resume on Sunday morning.

- Sophomore Andrew Suarez (Fairview, Texas) was seventh in the discus with a top toss of 33.04 meters (108 feet, four inches)
- First year Kila Silva-Ewan (Cheverly, Md.) was 11th in the discus with a top toss of 28.69 meters (94 feet, one inch)
- Sophomore Andrae' Green (Washington, D.C.) was 13th in the 200-meter dash prelims with a time of 24.34 seconds
- Sophomore Navar Harris (Charleston, W.Va.) placed 14th overall in the discus with a top toss of 26.16 meters (85 feet, 10 inches)
- First year Bobby Battle (Brandywine, Md.) finished 18th overall in the discus with a top toss of 21.34 meters (70 feet)
- First year Ajani Zahira (Fruitland Park, Fla.) was 20th in the 100-meter dash prelims with a time of 12.57 seconds
- First year Joe Bryan (Liberty, Mo.) checked in at 21th overall in the 200-meter dash prelims with a time of 24.94 seconds
UP NEXT
The second day of the 2025 United East Outdoor Track and Field Championships will continue tomorrow (Sunday, May 4) at 10 a.m. The start time moved up one hour due to expected rain delays slated for Sunday. A special senior recognition program will take place in the infield at 9:30 a.m. as the conference pays tribute to those graduating seniors competing in their final meet.
