WASHINGTON – A familiar face will roam the sideline for Gallaudet University this season as
Sekoe White, '10, makes his debut as the new men's basketball head coach.
White, who is deaf, is no stranger to Gallaudet or the Bison men's basketball program as he wore the buff and blue in the Field House from 2004-07, 2008-09. The all-conference player turned head coach will begin a new chapter for Gallaudet's storied men's basketball program in 2025-26.
Gallaudet returns nine players from last season's team and welcomes back another player from several seasons back. In addition, a huge first-year class gets added to the mix with several key recruits that should make an immediate impact for the Bison.
Coach White and company are excited to show the campus what this team can do in 2025-26.
Below is a breakdown of the 2025-26 Gallaudet men's basketball team.
2024-25 Review
Record: 3-21
United East: 3-13
TOP RETURNERS
Bruce Brewer Jr. (Santa Fe, N.M.), Sr., Guard
One of two players to start all 24 games last season. Brewer Jr. averaged 25.7 minutes played and led the team with 71 assists. The Santa Fe, N.M., native tallied 102 points, 71 rebounds and added 31 steals during the 2024-25 campaign. What's brewing for the senior guard this season?
Wyatt Carlson (Hubertus, Wis.), So., Forward
Carlson enters the 2025-26 season healthy and ready to set-up shop in the post for the Bison. Carlson saw limited action in 18 games last season but his size will be important once GU enters conference play.
Alex Ortman (Norway, Mich.), So., Guard/Forward
Ortman is the top returning scorer for the Bison returning this season. Last year, the sophomore guard/forward was second on the team with a 10.6 points per game average in 20 games played. The Norway, Mich., native will play a pivotal role this year for the Bison.
Jory Valencia (Riverside, Calif.), So., Guard
One could count on Valencia last season to show up and be ready to start as the guard saw action in 21 games and started 19. The Riverside, Calif., native averaged 9.6 points per game in his rookie campaign. The sophomore is prime to reach double figures on the regular in 2025-26.
Brandon Washington (Citronelle, Ala.), So., Guard/Forward
The former starting quarterback for the Bison football team joined the team halfway through the season and made a big impact on the defensive end of the court. Washington, one of the first off the bench to enter the game, made 17 steals and passed out 14 assists in 14 games played. It will be exciting to see Washington log a full season for the buff and blue.
IMPACT NEWCOMERS
Keanu Ray Boren (Frederick, Md.), Fy., Guard/Forward
A highly recruited prospect from the Maryland School for the Deaf and a member of Team USA Deaf Men's Basketball will suit up for the buff and blue in 2025-26. Boren follows in the footsteps of his father,
Lynn Ray Boren, '96, who was a member of the Gallaudet men's basketball team in the early 1990s.
Jaylen Johnson (Redlands, Calif.), Fy., Forward
Johnson will join the team once the Bison football season is complete as the 6-foot-4 wide receiver will be a big target on the court for the Bison.
JeVaughn Sargent (Laurel, Md.), Fy., Guard
The starting quarterback for the Bison follows Washington's footsteps from the gridiron to the court this season. Sargent is a transfer from Stevenson University but this is his first year playing college basketball.
KEY LOSSES
Blessed Mbogo (Silver Spring, Md.), Forward
A two-time all-conference second team honoree and Gallaudet's leading scorer last season as he averaged 16.5 points per game, 6.8 rebounds per game and finished the season with 380 points, 157 rebounds, 26 steals, 23 assists and eight blocks in 23 games played. Mbogo will be on the bench this season as an assistant coach.
Brandon Chung (Kahului, Hawaii), Forward
Chung was Gallaudet's third-leading scorer on last season's team as he averaged 10.1 points per game and 5.8 rebounds per game. Chung tallied 242 points, 138 rebounds, 26 assists, 19 steals and 11 blocks in 24 games played. Chung is serving as a student-assistant on this year's team.
