FREDERICK, MD--The Bison traveled to Hood College for a
conference doubleheader. While Hood took the first game 6-1, game
two was in the bag for the Bison until Hood scored twice in the
bottom of the seventh to take the game, 6-5.
In game one, Hood scored six runs in two innings to stay on top.
Gallaudet scored in the sixth, not relinquishing a shutout. The
score came when Casey McCullough reached on a fielding error and
advanced to second on a throwing error. Kallie Williams had already
reached on a fielder's choice and was at third base. Williams
brought in the run as McCullough was headed towards second base.
During the second game, the Bison overcame a 4-1 Hood lead with
four runs in the top of the fifth and seventh innings.
In the fifth, Amanda Smith and Virginia Keeler both hit singles
with an Alicia Balzer single loading the bases. Keri Schmidt
grounded out, advancing the runners to second and third, bringing
Smith home. Then Kallie Williams hit a RBI single to center field,
bringing Keeler home. Williams stole second, but Caitlin Mosholder
popped up to end the inning.
After a scoreless sixth, the Bison bats picked up again.
With two outs, Williams earned a base on balls, and scored when
Mosholder doubled to left center and advanced to third off an
error. Lori Hower then singled to right field, bringing Mosholder
home and giving the Buff and Blue a 5-4 edge with three outs
remaining.
Hood capitalized on two Bison errors and scored twice to take
the game 6-5.
Gallaudet (4-5-1, 0-2 CAC) goes on spring break. Play resumes at
home on March 25 against Columbia Union College. The first pitch is
set for 3:00 p.m.
