WASHINGTON – Senior pitcher
Lacey Drolsbaugh (Lansdale, Pa.) tossed back-to-back no-hitters here Sunday as Gallaudet University softball swept Sarah Lawrence College, 9-0 and 8-0 in five-inning games.
Drolsbaugh recorded a personal best 12 strikeouts in the first game against the Gryphons and tacked on another 11 in the second game.
It has been six years since Gallaudet softball threw a no-hitter. In fact, on March 6, 2020, the Bison threw back-to-back no-hitters against Trinity Washington University to begin the season.
Game 1: Gallaudet 9, Sarah Lawrence 0 (F/5)
Gallaudet earned its first win of the 2026 season with Drolsbaugh's first no-hitter and a personal record 12 strikeouts in five innings pitched. The right-hander struck out the side in three different innings (first, third and fourth).
The Bison took a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning as first-year second baseman
Sammie Howell (Columbus, Mont.) stole home, and Drolsbaugh later scored on a fielder's choice by sophomore infielder
Olivia Wascher (Noblesville, Ind.).
Sophomore
Kendra Cogswell (Riverside, Calif.) recorded her first career RBI with a groundout to third base that brought home outfielder
Sophia Wascher (Noblesville, Ind.) in the second inning.
Sophomore third baseman
Kinsley Bond delivered an RBI double, and first-year first baseman
Mattea King (Capitol Heights, Md.) followed with an RBI single to extend the lead to 5-0 in the third inning.
Howell continued the momentum in the fourth inning with an RBI single. Drolsbaugh hit an RBI triple which was her 18th triple of her career to bring Howell home and later scored on a groundout to shortstop by
Olivia Wascher. King added another run to the scoreboard with a single through the left side of the infield.
Drolsbaugh retired the Gryphons in order in the fifth inning to end the game by the eight-run mercy rule after five innings played.
GU's first four batters combined to go 5-for-10 at the plate with seven runs scored and five RBI and two extra-base hits. King added two hits and two RBI.
Sarah Lawrence only had two runners reach base due to hit-by-pitch and a Bison fielding error.
Game 2: Gallaudet 8, Sarah Lawrence 0 (F/5)
Drolsbaugh recorded a second straight no-hitter and added 11 strikeouts in the five-inning win over Sarah Lawrence. Drolsbaugh issued three walks and another Gryphon reached base due to a Bison error.
GU started fast with four runs in the bottom of the first inning as the Bison capitalized on the Gryphons' fielding miscues, a hit-by-pitch and three walks.
Bond hit her 11th career double to bring home
Olivia Wascher and push the Bison lead to 5-0 in the second inning.
In the third inning, Howell kept the momentum going with an RBI single and Drolsbaugh followed with a bases-loaded walk to extend the lead to 7-0.
The buff and blue ended the game in the bottom of the fifth inning when Howell stole second base and a throwing error into the outfield allowed her to come all the way around to score the eighth run of the game. That run activated the eight-run mercy rule in the bottom of the fifth inning to end the game.
DROLSBAUGH BY THE NUMBERS
It was a career day for
Lacey Drolsbaugh as the senior pitcher recorded back-to-back no-hitters in the circle and also helped her own cause with two runs, two RBI, two stolen bases, two walks, one triple and one hit-by-pitch.
Drolsbaugh now has tallied 38 strikeouts for the season in 27.1 innings to increase her career strikeout count to 239. Drolsbaugh surpassed former Bison pitcher
Alyssa Barlow (2015-18), who had 227 strikeouts in four seasons played, to hold the most strikeouts for a Bison pitcher during Gallaudet's time in the United East Conference (formerly known as the North Eastern Athletic Conference) from 2011-present. GU's program record is held by
Kari Richards, who tallied 324 strikeouts in three seasons (1999-2001).
The two shutouts on Sunday are the third and fourth for Drolsbaugh in her career and she increased her complete game total to three this season and 31 in her career. Drolsbaugh's last complete-game shutout victory came on April 22, 2025, when she blanked University of Valley Forge, 5-0 in five innings, at the GU Softball Complex. It also marked the first time since that same game against Valley Forge that Drolsbaugh recorded back-to-back games with 10 or more strikeouts.
At the plate, Drolsbaugh's name is listed in the Top 5 and Top 10 for many offensive statistics during the time GU has been a member of the United East Conference (2011-present). Her two hits this season are triples to increase her lead in that category to 18 and her four stolen bases give her 53 for her career, the most in the past two decades. She is two hits shy of 100 in her career.
UP NEXT
GU will head north to the Big Apple for a New York trip to face two non-conference opponents. The Bison will begin the trip against York (N.Y.) College (0-0) on Thursday, March 12, at 1:30 p.m.
