Gallaudet University STUNT makes its debut

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – It was a historic weekend for the Gallaudet University STUNT program as the Bison made their collegiate debut at the East Stroudsburg University Tournament.

While the Bison did not secure a win in one of their five matches the team made history by making its debut and securing points in two matches.

"For the first time in Gallaudet University history, the team proudly took the mat to compete in the sport of STUNT. This historic moment marks more than just a debut, it reflects the unity of our team, the strength of our Bison spirit, and the pride we carry as we represent Gallaudet," said Bison coach Céline Dazé.

In college STUNT, points are awarded to teams based on the execution and synchronization of partner stunts, pyramids, jumps and tumbling routines. Each STUNT match consists of four quarters, each with its own scoring. A team can earn up to three points per round. The first quarter is partner stunts, the second quarter is pyramids and tosses, the third quarter is jumps and tumbling and the fourth quarter is team routine.

On Saturday, Gallaudet lost to Misericordia University and East Stroudsburg by the same 11-0 score. In the third and final match the Bison picked up two points, their first collegiate competition, against Randolph College. GU scored two points during the third quarter during jumps and tumbling. Randolph came back to defeat Gallaudet, 4-2, with a fourth quarter comeback with the team routine.

On Sunday, GU faced off against Randolph once more and lost a close game, 5-3. The match was tied 2-2 heading into the team routine where the Bison got one point, and the WildCats picked up three.

The Bison concluded the weekend with a 9-0 loss to Saint Elizabeth University.
