WASHINGTON – The Gallaudet University softball team returned home for the first time in two weeks here Thursday afternoon as the Bison hosted Albright College in a non-conference doubleheader.
It was a marathon twinbill that took nearly five hours to complete at the GU Softball Complex. Albright (3-11) swept Gallaudet (3-15) by the scores of 15-5 in six innings and 10-5 in the second game.
Game 1: Albright 15, Gallaudet 5 (F/6)
The Lions had two big innings against the Bison and that was the main difference in the first game.
Albright scored five runs in the top of the first as Slaydon Fish slammed a two-run home run to left field to highlight the first frame.
Gallaudet got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first when first year
Kinsley Bond (Beulaville, N.C.) doubled home junior
Lacey Drolsbaugh (Lansdale, Pa.).
The Bison took advantage of two Albright errors in the bottom of the third to score a second run as GU trailed 5-2.
In the top of the fourth it was Gallaudet's miscues that spurred Albright to score seven runs on five hits and three Bison errors.
GU began the bottom of the fifth with three consecutive singles off the bats of Drolsbaugh, Bond and sophomore
Hannah Puent (Indianapolis, Ind.), who made her 2025 season debut. Drolsbaugh scored on a wild pitch from Albright pitcher Alexis Laboy (2-1). Moments later, a Lions throwing error permitted Bond and Puent to race around the bases and score as GU cut the lead to 12-5. The seven-run deficit allowed the game to continue into the sixth inning.
Albright added three runs in the top of the sixth to activate the eight-run mercy rule, 15-5. GU couldn't score any more runs in the bottom half as the game ended after six innings.
Drolsbaugh (2-6) took the loss in the circle as she allowed 15 runs (five earned) on 14 hits, four walks and struck out five in six innings. Drolsbaugh was GU's leading batter going 3 for 4 with three runs scored. GU finished the game with nine hits and only one strikeout.
Game 2: Albright 10, Gallaudet 5
Gallaudet got off on the right foot with four runs on five hits. The Bison received hits from sophomore
Andi Sisemore (Arlington, Texas), Drolsbaugh, Bond, senior
Caitlyn Smith (Indianapolis, Ind.) and junior
Lou Cherena (El Paso, Texas). Bond and Smith both hit RBI doubles.
Albright got one run in the second and gained the lead in the third with a six-run frame as the Lions took a 7-4 advantage into the bottom half.
The visitors added three runs in the top of the sixth and GU added one in the bottom of the sixth. The Bison scored off a throwing error while Drolsbaugh singled and Bond doubled to place runners at second and third base with two outs but the next batter lined out to end the threat.
Gallaudet matched its season-high with 13 hits. Drolsbaugh led the way going 3 for 4 while five Bison had two or more hits.
Bond (0-6) took the loss in the circle while Albright reliever Caitlin Mahady (1-0) picked up the win as she threw the final five innings of the game. Bond only allowed 10 runs (two earned) on eight hits, 10 walks and two strikeouts.
