Gallaudet begins conference play at St. Mary's (Md.)

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The United East conference schedule began this evening for Gallaudet University and St. Mary's College of Maryland as the two men's basketball teams met up in the Michael P. O'Brien Athletics & Recreation Center Arena.

The Bison came up short on the road to the Seahawks, 99-83, on Wednesday night.

Gallaudet (0-5, 0-1 United East) finally got its complete team back together after the 2025 Deaflympics concluded on November 26 in Tokyo, Japan. Several players suited up at Lehman and the last Team USA player returned for tonight's conference opener.

Sophomore guard Alex Ortman (Norway, Mich.) led all-scorers with 25 points, a new career-high, as he made 9 of 12 shots from the floor and was nearly perfect from the free-throw line (7-for-8).

GU had four players reach double figures including two Team USA players in Jory Valencia (Riverside, Calif.) and Keanu Ray Boren (Frederick, Md.) as they scored 16 and 14 points, respectively. Valencia added eight boards and a career-high eight assists. First-year forward Jayden Orsi-Pedersen (Frederick, Md.) was the fourth Bison in double figures with 10 points.

St. Mary's (3-3, 1-0 United East) shot 55.7 percent from the field in the game (34-for-61) and drained 10 3-pointers in the victory.

The Seahawks had four players in double figures led by sophomore guard James Crimaudo, who scored a team-high 23 points to go with six rebounds, six assists and two steals.
