Gallaudet hosted No. 20 Randolph-Macon for Homecoming

WASHINGTON – The Gallaudet University football team had a tough task here Saturday afternoon against nationally-ranked Randolph-Macon College at Hotchkiss Field on Homecoming Weekend. The Bison lost to No. 20 Randolph-Macon by the score of 47-7 before a festive crowd of 1,953.

Gallaudet (1-6, 1-5 ODAC) got on the scoreboard late in the fourth quarter when senior quarterback Gabe Segovia (Glendale, Ariz.) threw a 17-yard touchdown pass to senior wide receiver Andrae' Green (Washington, D.C.) with two minutes left. That was Segovia's first touchdown pass of the season and fifth in his career.

Randolph-Macon (7-1, 6-0 ODAC) scored on five of its six possessions to begin the game as the Yellow Jackets led 27-0 with under five minutes to play before halftime. GU gave up one of its three safeties late in the second quarter as Randolph-Macon took a 29-0 lead into halftime.

GU celebrated Homecoming Weekend during halftime by introducing the 2025 Gallaudet Athletics Hall of Fame Class. The Gallaudet cheerleaders and Motion Z performed during the 20-minute break.

In the second half, the Yellow Jackets picked up where they left off. The Randolph-Macon defense along with bad snaps by GU led to safeties at the 11:43 and 7:46 marks. In between the two safeties was an Avery Chow 23-yard touchdown run. Chow led all-rushers with 65 yards on 13 carries.

Randolph-Macon quarterback Jack Melton threw a 13-yard touchdown pass to Trey Barbee with four minutes left in the third quarter as the visitors led 47-0.

The Yellow Jackets finished the game with 313 yards of offense (207 on the ground) while the Bison were limited to 77 yards of offense (16 on the ground). GU put the ball on the ground seven times and lost three. Two of the safeties came because of a fumble into the end zone. R-MC also had a pick-six when Caleb Hughes intercepted first-year quarterback JeVaughn Sargent (Laurel, Md.) early in the second quarter and returned it 49 yards for the score.

Senior defensive back Zefan Nathanson (Manor, Texas) led the Bison defense with 11 tackles (four solo) and 1.5 tackles for a loss of six yards. Junior linebacker Dawson Ethington (Baltimore, Md.) added nine tackles (four solo) and senior linebacker Jacob Hundley (McKee, Ky.) chipped in eight tackles (three solo). Junior defensive tackle Andrew Suarez (Fairview, Texas) had a career game with seven tackles and 1.5 tackles for a loss of five yards and one sack for a loss of three yards.
