Bison clipped by Seahawks on the road

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The Gallaudet University men's basketball team dropped an 85-33 United East conference game to St. Mary's College of Maryland here Wednesday evening in the Michael P. O'Brien Athletics & Recreation Center Arena.

Gallaudet (3-20, 2-8 United East) shook off a sluggish first half and made 10 of 28 shots (35.7 percent) from the field in the second half as the Bison tallied 24 points.

St. Mary's (13-10, 8-2 United East) shot nearly 50 percent from the field in the first half as the Seahawks raced out to an 8-0 lead. GU got to within eight, 13-5, after a 3-point shot made by sophomore Kyle Florio (Franklin, Mass.) at the 11:13 mark. That was as close as the Bison would get as SMC scored the next 17 points and took a 37-9 advantage into the locker room at the half.

Junior center Alex Antsiferov (North Charleston, S.C.) led the buff and blue with nine points and six rebounds. Junior forward Blessed Mbogo (Silver Spring, Md.) chipped in seven points, six boards and two steals in the loss.

The Seahawks had three players in double figures led by senior guard Daryn Alexander, who scored 12 points, nine rebounds, three assists and one block on Senior Day.

The Bison drop the season series (0-3) with the Seahawks as the two teams played twice in conference competition and once in the Battle of D.C. & Maryland Tournament back in November.
