AURORA, N.Y. - The Gallaudet University baseball team scored sevens run in both games of Sunday's United East Conference doubleheader at Wells College but the Express completed the three-game sweep of the Bison with 13-7 and 14-7 wins.
Gallaudet (7-26, 1-14 United East) junior catcher Salvador Diaz (Norwalk, Calif.) continued his hot streak at the plate as he doubled home senior Austin Sliva-Wynne (Rosenberg, Texas) to give the Bison an early 1-0 lead.
Wells College (10-19, 4-11 United East) answered with seven runs in the bottom of the first to take a 7-1 lead.
The Bison responded with three runs in the second and one run in the third as the buff and blue trailed by three, 8-5.
The Express scored five unanswered runs over the course of the next two innings as they took a 13-5 lead into the seventh.
Senior Darren Drolsbaugh (Lansdale, Pa.) delivered with a two-run double to center field to cap GU's scoring at seven.
Sophomore Johnathan Guerrero (Indio, Calif.) took the loss on the mound as he threw 4.2 innings and struck out five.
In the second game, Gallaudet held a lead early before the Express scored 11 runs late.
Diaz got the Bison on the scoreboard with a solo home run in the second inning as GU trailed, 2-1.
In the third, Diaz cleared the bases with a double to left-center field as Gallaudet took a 4-2 lead.Â
Wells got one run back in the fourth before GU scored two runs in the fifth and one in the sixth as the Bison led 7-3.
Freshman shortstop Darico Castillo (Passaic, N.J.) slammed a two-run home run to bring home Diaz, who walked earlier in the inning.
In the sixth, Sliva-Wynne came through with a RBI single to plate Drolsbaugh and give the Bison a four-run lead.
Wells got three runs back in the bottom of the sixth and went on to score four runs in the seventh and eighth innings en route to the 14-7 win.
Diaz finished the game 2-for-3 at the plate with four RBI, two runs scored and two walks.
Sliva-Wynne (2-6) took the loss on the mound as he threw six innings and struck out one.

Gallaudet returns home for a three-game series against Penn St.-Abington (14-15, 9-6 United East) during Senior Day weekend for the Bison. The first game will be under the lights at 6 p.m. on Friday, April 21.
