ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. - The 2023 Atlantic East Conference swimming championships came to a close here Sunday at The Aquatics Center at the Michael P. O'Brien Athletics & Recreation Center on the campus of St. Mary's College of Maryland.
Gallaudet University saw its men's team finish fourth overall out of six teams with 336 points. Marymount (Va.) University swept the men's and women's championships. The Saints earned 713 team points on the men's side while the women's team amassed 771.
On the men's side, the host Seahawks were second with 615 points followed by Cabrini University (506) to round out the Top 3. Immaculata University checks in at fifth place with 234 points followed by Marywood University (98).
Sophomore Bryant Gonzalez (Chicago, Ill.) got on the podium with an eighth-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:57.95. Gonzalez was followed by freshman teammate Sethan Rolofson (Gardner, Kan.) in ninth place (3:06.09).
BISON TRACKS
- Sophomore Jules Yance (Danville, Ky.) finished fifth in the 1,650-yard freestyle (24:01.62) and 13th in the 200-yard breaststroke (3:16.39)
- Freshman Keegan Wheeler (Brewerton, N.Y.) placed sixth in the 1,650-yard freestyle (25:19.17)
- Freshman Thomas Burkhardt (Flushing, Mich.) took ninth in the 100-yard freestyle (52.93)
- Freshman Trent Mora (Austin, Texas) took ninth in the 200-yard backstroke (2:58.70) and 11th in the 100-yard freestyle (59.20)
- Freshman Abdullah Alghamdi (Dammam, Saudi Arabia) was 14th in the 200-yard breaststroke (3:27.16)
- GU's 400-yard freestyle relay team of Burkhardt, Mora, senior Nick Hohrman (Fergus Falls, Minn.) and Rolofson placed fifth with a time of 3:52.75)
