ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. - The second day of the 2023 Atlantic East Conference swimming championships took place Saturday at The Aquatics Center at the Michael P. O'Brien Athletics & Recreation Center on the campus of St. Mary's College of Maryland.
Several members of the Gallaudet University men's swim team got on the podium during Saturday night's finals. The Bison team remains in fourth place overall out of six teams as GU increased its team point total from 106 to 218.
Marymount (Va.) University remains in first place with 502 points followed by the host Seahawks (412) and Cabrini University (358) round out the Top 3 spots. Immaculata University checks in at fifth place with 145 points followed by Marywood University (57).
Gallaudet's 800-yard freestyle relay team finished fourth with a time of 9:24.93 to secure 30 team points. The evening began with the 200-yard medley relay as the Bison quartet placed fifth with a time of 2:03.07 to give GU an additional 28 points.
Freshman Sethan Rolofson (Gardner, Kan.) finished seventh overall in the 400-yard IM with a time of 6:12.07 to pick up 12 team points.
Freshman Thomas Burkhardt (Flushing, Mich.) got on the podium in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:07.04 to earn 11 team points. Burkhardt posted a 1:04.36 time during preliminaries earlier in the day to earn a spot in the A-Final Saturday night group.
Seniors from all teams were recognized on Saturday night as part of championship weekend tradition.
BISON TRACKS
- Senior Nick Hohrman (Fergus Falls, Minn.) took ninth in the 200-yard freestyle (2:13.72)
- Sophomore Bryant Gonzalez (Chicago, Ill.) was ninth in the 100-yard butterfly (1:14.51)
- Freshman Keegan Wheeler (Brewerton, N.Y.) finished behind Hohrman in the 200-yard freestyle in 10th (2:32.86)
- Freshman Abdullah Alghamdi (Dammam, Saudi Arabia) was 11th in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:36.53)
- The 200-yard medley relay team consisted of Burkhardt, freshman Trent Mora (Austin, Texas), Gonzalez and Hohrman
- The 800-yard freestyle relay team consisted of Burkhardt, Hohrman, Rolofson and sophomore Jules Yance (Danville, Ky.)

Gallaudet returns to The Aquatics Center at the Michael P. O'Brien Athletics & Recreation Center tomorrow (Sunday, Feb. 12) for Day 3 of the 2023 Atlantic East Conference championships. Preliminaries will start at 10 a.m. and the finals will be held at 4 p.m. The final six events include the 1,650-yard freestyle, 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly and 400 freestyle relay.
