WASHINGTON - At home in Gallaudet's pool on Saturday, the Bison women's swimming team competed in a dual meet against Stevenson University. After a tiresome meet the night before, the six attending GU competitors' 15 points could not catch up to Stevenson's 186.
Despite the loss, the Bison (1-8) achieved various personal victories. First-year
Tiadra Vang (Kansas City, Kan.) completed her first ever 500-yard freestyle event, a long-distance race requiring much endurance and power from its racers, and posted a time of 10:53.12. First-year
Ellen Schloemer (Cincinnati, Ohio) finished third in the 100-yard breaststroke with a new personal record of 1:31.93. Schloemer also came in second in the 200-yard breaststroke (3:24.07). Sophomore
Molly Headrick (Vista, Calif.) took home a fifth-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle (32.63). The Bison competed in two relays, the 200-yard free relay consisting of sophomore
Paola Sarabia (Yuma, Ariz.), first-year
Kelly Carbajal (Rilato, Calif.), Vang and Schloemer that was unfortunately disqualified. The 200-yard medley relay of junior
Amelia Oliver (Elkridge, Md.), Schloemer, Headrick and Carbajal placed fourth (2:33.04).
Stevenson (7-0) won all 13 events and placed first and second in 11 of those events.Â
