Bison defeat Penn St.-Berks, 74-65

READING, Pa. - Gallaudet University built an early lead and never looked back against Penn St.-Berks in a United East Conference women's basketball game here Saturday afternoon as the Bison won, 74-65.

Gallaudet (4-13, 3-5 United East) shot 60 percent from the field in the first quarter (9-for-15) and over 57 percent in the second quarter (12-for-21). The Bison led 21-16 after the first 10 minutes and extended that margin to 49-32 at the half.

Penn St.-Berks (1-12, 1-6 United East) turned the tables in the second half and outscored the Bison in both the third and fourth quarters but it wasn't enough to tie or grab the lead. The Nittany Lions outscored the Bison, 33-25, in the second half thanks to a 15-0 run. 

Junior forward Cassidy Perry (Frederick, Md.) led the Bison with 13 points, 14 rebounds, seven assists and three blocks. Perry grabbed 11 of her 14 boards on the defensive side of the court. Freshman guard Olivia Brown (St. Augustine, Fla.) recorded 12 points and six rebounds while sophomore forward Hannah Puent (Indianapolis, Ind.) matched Brown with 12 points and 11 rebounds off the bench. Junior guard Rajena Guettler (Frederick, Md.) was the fourth Bison in double digits with 10 points, seven rebounds and three steals. Junior guard Sunita Schmidjorg (Austin, Texas) chipped in nine points and freshman guard Bree Goldstein (Riverside, Calif.) added eight.

Penn St.-Berks was paced by Hailey Miller, who made five 3-pointers and finished with 20 points. Kayley Mattis and Jalyn Hann added 17 and 12 points, respectively.
