GU completes three-game series with St. Mary's (Md.)

WASHINGTON - The Gallaudet University baseball team completed their United East Conference three-game series with St. Mary's College of Maryland here Saturday. The Bison (5-22, 1-10 United East) lost the doubleheader by the same outcome, 15-7, in both games against the Seahawks (10-8, 6-5 United East).

Game 1: St. Mary's (Md.) 15, Gallaudet 7 (F/7)
The Seahawks jumped out to an early 7-0 lead and later led 13-1 heading into the bottom of the fourth inning. GU outscored St. Mary's 6-2 the rest of the seven-inning game.

Gallaudet scored two runs in the fourth, one in the fifth and three runs in the sixth. 

Sophomore Salvador Diaz (Norwalk, Calif.) led the Bison at the plate as he went 3-for-4, drove in two runs and scored one run. Diaz had a two-run double in the sixth. Sophomore Mitchell Dolinar (Las Vegas, Nev.) had a two-run single in the fourth. Junior Frank Diaz (Far Rockaway, N.Y.) and freshman Johnathan Guerrero (Indio, Calif.) finished the game with two hits each and one run scored. Guerrero added a RBI single in the fifth inning.

Joshua Dugan (San Antonio, Texas) took the loss on the mound as he pitched three innings and struck out one. St. Mary's starter Jake Wills (3-3) picked up the win as he threw five innings and allowed four runs on seven hits, walked four and struck out five.

Game 2: St. Mary's (Md.) 15, Gallaudet 7 (F/9)
The Bison held their own in the second game as they kept pace with the Seahawks until the top of the fifth. St. Mary's scored three times in the fifth to break up a 2-2 tied game. The Seahawks outscored the Bison 13-5 over the final five innings in the nine-inning contest.

Gallaudet scored one run in the second and fourth innings as Lane was at the center of each run for the Bison. The senior infielder singled in the second and later scored on a sacrifice fly by freshman Jaylen Johnson (Dublin, Calif.). In the fourth, it was Lane who drove in the run with a RBI single to left-center field to plate Salvador Diaz, who led off the fourth with a double.

Johnson picked up a second RBI in the sixth with a single to right-center field to plate Lane. Gallaudet added four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Lane picked up a second RBI and Guerrero got his first as the pair grounded out but scored the runner.

Junior Darren Drolsbaugh (Lansdale, Pa.) took the loss on the mound as he pitched six innings and allowed seven runs (two earned) on seven hits, three walks and one strikeout. St. Mary's starter Tommy Brill (1-0) got the win as he went six innings and allowed three runs (two earned) on nine hits, two walks and struck out one. The front half of St. Mary's order combined to drive in 13 runs and scored 12 runs.

UP NEXT
Gallaudet will host Penn College (12-10, 6-3 United East) this Tuesday, April 12, at 3:30 p.m., to complete a three-game conference series that was postponed due to poor field conditions several weeks ago.
