Box Score WASHINGTON - The Gallaudet University baseball team started its weekend series with St. Mary's College of Maryland here Friday evening at Hoy Field. The Bison came up short in the United East Conference contest as the visiting Seahawks won 27-8.
It was a quick start for the Seahawks (8-8, 4-5 United East) as they put up runs in the first two innings before the Bison (5-20, 1-8 United East) got on the scoreboard. GU cut into the six-run lead with a run in the bottom of the second inning. Senior Winston Lane III (Brooklyn Center, Minn.) walked and promptly stole second base before he scored on a RBI single by sophomore Joshua Dugan (San Antonio, Texas).
Gallaudet scored runs in six of the nine innings and five of the final six frames. The Bison plated two runs in the fifth and seventh innings.
Junior outfielder Austin Sliva-Wynne (Richmond, Texas) blasted a two-run home run over the left-field fence to score junior Frank Diaz (Far Rockaway, N.Y.). Dugan led the Bison with four RBI as he went 3-for-4 at the dish. GU's other extra-base hit came from Lane, who tripled in the fourth inning.
Freshman starting pitcher Johnathan Guerrero (Indio, Calif.) took the loss on the mound as he pitched four innings and struck out five batters. Freshman Robert Quigley (Mountain View, Calif.) pitched three innings and struck out one. Sophomore Mitchell Dolinar (Las Vegas, Nev.) closed things out and threw the final two innings where he struck out two.
