Gallaudet picks up first conference win with three-point home victory

WASHINGTON - Gallaudet University erased a 12-point halftime deficit here Saturday afternoon and outscored Penn St.-Berks 51-36 in the second half en route to a 81-78 victory in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) women's basketball game on Padden Court in the Field House.

Gallaudet (3-3, 1-1 NEAC) was paced by its starters as senior guard/forward Hannah Neild (Litchfield, N.H.) scored 15 of her game-high 26 points in the second half. She added a team-high nine rebounds, three steals, two assists and one block in the win. Junior guard Kendall Hudson (Blissfield, Mich.) matched Neild with 15 second-half points as she finished with 20 points and seven rebounds. Sophomore guard Emelia Beldon (Frederick, Md.) chipped in 15 points and passed out a game-high eight assists to go with three rebounds, two steals and one block. Senior guard Sabina Shysh (Tucson, Ariz.) added 12 points, eight rebounds and four assists while senior forward Kelli Barnes (Cliffside, N.C.) recorded five points, seven rebounds and two blocks.

Penn St.-Berks (2-5, 1-1 NEAC) was led by guard Deanna Daddona's 23-point game as she passed made six steals and five rebounds. The Nittany Lions had four players in double figures including Daddona, Kylie Herman (16), Kaitlyn Armstrong (14) and Sam Brensinger (10). Armstrong grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds to record a double-double.

The Nittany Lions led 23-19 after the first quarter and took a 42-30 lead into halftime. Gallaudet rallied in the second half with 27 points in the third quarter and 24 in the fourth. GU's largest lead was eight points midway through the fourth quarter.
