GU swept on the road by Penn College

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - The Gallaudet University baseball team was swept here Tuesday by Penn College in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) doubleheader. The Wildcats shut out the Bison in the first game, 7-0, and won by the same seven-run margin in the second game, 8-1.

Game 1: Penn College 7, Gallaudet 0
Junior Dylan Hayes (Endicott, N.Y.) broke up Penn College starting pitcher Max Bair's no-hit bid with a single to right field in the top of the seventh inning. Hayes' hit was the lone hit for the Bison in the 7-0 shutout.

Bair (2-1) pitched a complete game shutout as he went seven innings and allowed one hit, one walk and struck out eight. Hayes (2-3) took the loss as he surrendered seven runs (six earned) on 12 hits, two walks and one strikeout.

Penn College scored three runs in the first inning, one in the second and three additional runs in the fifth.

Game 2: Penn College 8, Gallaudet 1
The Bison (6-25, 1-7 NEAC) fell behind early as Penn College (17-7, 8-2 NEAC) scored a run in the first inning and five runs in the second. The Wildcats added a run in the fourth and eighth innings in the 8-1 win in nine innings.

Sophomore Cameron Upton (Vicksburg, Miss.) doubled in the fourth and later came around to score on a wild pitch to put Gallaudet on the scoreboard. Upton finished 2-for-4 at the plate with a run scored.

Upton (1-3), GU's starting pitcher, took the loss as he allowed seven runs (six earned) on eight hits, two walks and two strikeouts.

Gallaudet returns home and will host Cazenovia College (3-15, 2-4 NEAC) on Saturday, April 22, for two conference games that begin at noon.
