Washington, DC - The Bison fell once more in
conference play, as they lost today's home game to St. Mary's
College 25 - 1. Errors committed in the early innings gave the
Seahawks a quick lead, which they added to in the late innings and
ultimately never gave up. Gallaudet could not catch up at the
plate, but they did manage to tack on a lone run in the
6th inning to prevent a shutout. In the end, due to
darkness and an insurmountable lead, the game concluded after 7
innings. The team fell to 0-7 in conference play, and is now
2-8-1 on the season.
Ryan Hastings (Cherry
Valley, Massachusetts/MSSD) took the mound for the Bison and threw
four strong innings before being lifted for Johnny Bingham (Mullica
Hill, New Jersey/Model Secondary School for the Deaf) before
the start of the 5th inning. Accumulating defensive
errors kept Hastings' outing short today. Bingham and Chester
Kuschminder ( Olathe, Kansas/Kansas School for the Deaf) both
scuffled on the mound during the 5th and 6th
innings, leading to additional Seahawks runs which put the game out
of reach.
The hitting of Jeremy Shepps
(Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania/Cumberland Valley) and John Moore
(Frederick, Maryland/Maryland School f/t Deaf) kept the Bison
alive for a short time and several other hard hits by
their teammates got some men on base, but a couple of
inning-ending strikeouts left them stranded. For the Bison,
Kuschminder was the only player to hit one deep into the outfield,
as the rest of the hits were singles. Gallaudet was unable to
capitalize on the Seahawks starting an inexperienced freshman
pitcher. Gallaudet's next game is at home on Friday, March
12th , as they go up against non-conference opponent
Penn State - Harrisburg.
