McDonough (Pembroke, Mass.) continues her record setting
women's soccer season as she netted her ninth goal of the season
for Gallaudet University on Thursday afternoon on the road against
Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) force Salisbury University.
McDonough cut Salisbury's lead to two, 3-1, in the 24th minute but
the Sea Gulls rattled off six more goals to end the game with a 9-1
victory.
Gallaudet (5-11-1, 0-7 CAC) will have one more chance to win a
conference game next week when the Bison host winless Marymount
(Va.) University (0-13, 0-6 CAC) on October 29.
The Bison got on the scoreboard when McDonough blasted a free
kick from near midfield past Salisbury goalie Melissa Orgera (one
save) who dove and just missed the ball.
McDonough has netted three of Gallaudet's four conference goals
this season and assisted on the fourth. For the season, she has
nine goals and one assist for a team-high 19 points in 11 games
played.
Salisbury (9-3-2, 6-1 CAC), who is in first-place in the
conference, had five different goal scorers in the game led by
Jessica Robinson's three goals. Christina Eury and Julia Finecey
both netted two goals for the maroon and gold.
SU outshot GU, 54-4, and took eight corner kicks to the three by
the Bison. Gallaudet freshman goalie Kara Gulvas
(Crown Point, Ind.) made 12 saves in the first half while junior
Casey McCullough (Oceanside, Calif.) played the
second half and made 16 saves.
The Bison will next host Lincoln (Pa.) University on Saturday
evening (October 24) at Hotchkiss Field for a 5:30 p.m.
non-conference game during Homecoming Weekend.
