Sarah Gumina was named full-time women's soccer coach today.
Gumina becomes the third full-time head coach of a women's sports
team at Gallaudet. Lynn Ray Boren is the full time head coach for
women's volleyball and Kevin Cook coaches women's basketball
full-time.
Gumina has coached Gallaudet soccer for two years. In 2002, she
coached the soccer team to a school record seven wins and 42 goals
scored. She is also coaching this year's team.
Gumina has a firm philosophy of student-athletes. "Academics
should be at the forefront of a student's college career followed
closely by their athletic responsibilities."
Before starting her coaching career, Gumina played two years of
college soccer at the University of Central Florida and two more
years at the University of South Florida. She is currently a
member of the Maryland Pride (WPSL) women's semi-pro league.
Gallaudet Athletic Director Mike Weinstock looks forward to
watching Gumina grow the women's soccer program. "I'm excited about
the skills and knowledge Coach Gumina brings to the women's soccer
program. She has worked very hard with this year's team and I
know she will do a great job and work hard to build the program."
